What if Canada Joined the European Union?
A month ago people thought the liberals were toast and joining the EU was a joke. People are not laughing anymore.

We are breaking up with the US and asking our old friends if we can sleep in their spare room for a few days.
Most products we could sell in the EU. We'll just have to embrace Chinese cars fully, and we can sell those too.

I would not be surprised if we got a referendum on this.

What if?
What if we could get them to sign that bloody Trade deal already?
And yeah, what if we could buy a small EV for $20K that no one will make in N America to bomb around town in with no govt handouts needed? Wouldn't be selling them into the USA anyway.
BTW - Mexico's building one. Olinia, sells for 90,000 pesos there - $6400 Cdn!

Re: What if Canada Joined the European Union?
BYD has stopped construction on their Mexico plant, because the new 1KW charging batteries (5 minutes 0 - 400km range) are top secret and they don't want the US getting a look at the process and stealing the technology like China has been doing for 40 years.
So we won't get the good EVs that will compete with Land Rover and BMW X5 series for $30k. We need to dump the US and all their corrupt lobbyists.

Canada's auto sector is getting squeezed on both ends and it is not tenable. Something is going to give and Ontario is going to pay the price for putting all their eggs in Doug Ford's basket. Will the new NAFTA be torn up by the tariff war? It's looking more on more likely by the day. At which point we might as well ditch the tariffs on Chinese EV's because it will be our only option just like the EU.
