Re: Renewable energy Omnibus thread
Used to have equipment on a windy mountiantop, only once did I ever go there when the wind wasn"t blowing ans we were eaten alive by the mosquitoes.
It was covered with radio, tv and emergency communication towers with a single line threaded up there to power it
I suggested to a gathering of businesses to build a wind turbine that could charge all our backup batteries and even power everything and the idea was pronounced stupid by all the other people.
Even after a storm took out power and the access road and blew for days preventing helicopter access to bring diesel and propane. Took out everything for a week until the road and powe rline was rebuilt.
Stoopid, stoopid idea.
Even after the exact thing happened twice again plus umpteen tree falls and lightning hits in the last decade or so. Rogers just leased a spot downtown for a tower so businesses could be spared next time.
Probably for much more than a shared wind turbine on the mountain.
