Its kind of embarrassing how little Trudeau got done in 10 years, while Carney is just charging in full Light Brigade.

Trudeau was in power and resigned before the USA abandoned it's commitments and turned into one of the belligerents.

I think we all voted for a better economy, and Russia/North Korea show you can base your entire economy on military build up. just not forever. Wars eventually end.

Decades of underfunding make baseline investment look like overreach. Muscles atrophy when not used and it will be a very painful and messy to get back in fighting trim. There will be waste, the will be graft. We are well past the point of micromanagement and throwing money at it is the only short term solution we have. Developing domestic arms will be a long term project and we need to specialize our talents and build at scale. We have a leg up on training and resources so we should start there and see what we can bring to the table to best support our allies in need. Honestly, what Ukraine needs now we need to figure out how to supply not only for them but for ourselves as well. Artillery shells in bulk, drones, transport trucks, anti-air, long range recon, satellites and economic guarantees. South Korea is chomping at the bit offing to sell us this and more but also export how to maintain what they sell. We should not look a gifted horse in the mouth. Gripen looks like a superstar for Canada's needs for an airforce we can rely on without software updates from the US.

We need to hit the ground running as we have a lot of ground to make up for and we are nowhere near in shape to run a marathon required at this time. You can't have an economy without skies and shores you can protect and when 75% of our defence procurement is defendant upon software updates from Washington we are in an untenable state.
