We did commit to buying a certain number in order to get certain manufacturing subcontracts.

Just don't rely on them to fly when we need them, and buy Gripens too.

I'd suggest to buy 18-24 F35s, a squadron for each coast and brag loudly that's our NORAD integration.
Then grab the Swede deal for about 100 Grypens. Maybe a license to supplement Sweden's own production for exports....

$19 billion= 4 jets arriving in 2026, followed by 6 in 2027, and another 6 in 2028

88 is to full order but we have already paid up front for the 16 with the option to pay for the rest. So we might as well keep those for domestic and then roll out full production with Saab to make GlobalEye and Gripens for us and Ukraine. The F-35 we need to retire the CF-18's that are at end of life ASAP and will also retain skilled pilots.
