TLDR Toronto corruption and incompetence has been so bad that a tram system designed from the 1800's still hasn't been ripped out and replaced with anything. It is a testament to corruption across Canada. They run something essential so poorly that you look to any private option to get work done. Had the TTC prioritized and modernized what they already had they would be running at a fraction of the cost and not demanding subways at 100 times the cost and 10 times the wait. ANY political pushback to cars is a political non-starter. Cars are the white elephant here not the trams.

Prefer to have a billion dollar per kilometre Skytrain like Vancouver?
Looks good, runs good, 20c a litre on everyone who doesn't use it and still runs out of money in 3.2 seconds.
