The union didn't like the last offer so the railway companies locked them out. That means nobody has a job to go to because the companies won't let them. So, in response the workers will picket.
I can almost assure you that every mainstream media source will refer to it constantly as a strike, which it is not.
Sort of like how they all refer to "Union Bosses" even though you do not get to elect your Boss.
Just making things clear. It is the CN & CPKC forcing the govt to act in accordance to how demockracy runs where companies tell the govt what to do and the govt hops to it,
Concur. This is a LOCKOUT not a strike and it is management that is off the rails here and not by a little either. The NDP will not support legislation but the Bloc may or at least abstain paving the way to arbitration. The Liberals could make this a confidence and force the cons to vote against thus forcing an election on the liberal's terms.
Well that was over fast!
Yessuh corporate Massihs, we'll do your bargaining for you. Need a side of tax breaks so go with your order?

They can't wait on this as both lines are on strike. Management delayed the talks 9 months and deferred a year so that both lines would be up for renewal at the same time. This was deliberate and a strong argument for nationalization.

I wrote the following rant a day or so before CN locked out its workers. I feel the sentiment is accurate.
I am regularly reminded that we have no impartial/objective news media companies. That is, all media companies have a clear corporate agenda. Today on CBC radio the news reader said that there are only 24 hours before the CN Rail workers will go on strike and damage the Canadian economy. Really? I would love to hear a news outlet announce: In 24 hours the CN Rail workers will face financial hardship as they go on strike. The CN Rail workers are fighting for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. CBC Radio is a corporate puppet.
