Anyone actually involved in local politics?

I ran once about 20 years ago for a seat on council. Unfortunately only half the people who signed my nomination papers even showed up to vote for me.
Funny thing was, another candidate died a couple weeks before the election and in spite of newspaper, community tv station ads and signs right there in the polling booth that the ballots had already been printed that guy got the 1nd highest number of votes among the candidates...
A few of us formed a committee to gather and run a few candidates next year with ideas similar to ours that there has to be more transparency, public consultation and far more attention to community growth and sustainability.
