Estonia is ready to pay for Orban the beggar — as long as Hungary cuts ties with Russia

Estonian President Alar Karis said Tallinn is prepared to help Hungary cover penalty payments if Budapest terminates its energy contracts with Russia. The issue concerns sanctions-related obligations and potential compensation for withdrawing from agreements with Gazprom and other Russian entities.

Karis made it clear that Hungary’s contracts with Moscow sustain energy dependence on the aggressor state and undermine European unity. In his view, financial assistance could be a logical step — to deprive Viktor Orban of his last excuse to keep playing on the Kremlin’s side.

For years, Orban has blocked EU decisions against Russia, hiding behind claims of “energy necessity”. Estonia is effectively offering a deal — money in exchange for a political break with Moscow. The only remaining question is whether Orban is ready to give up his role as the Kremlin’s main Trojan horse inside the European Union.
