He's right there. She wants the impossible pipeline, instead of three others that are not only possible but might even be embraced.

Just so she can be mad at Ottawa for 3 more years till election day.

I generally like what the PM is doing for the Canadian economy. He'll likely get my support in the next Federal election. The NDP are dead. However, the pipeline is something that I cannot get behind. The provincial NDP and the Federal Liberals will lose my support if the pipeline goes ahead. I don't want oil tankers in the Hecate strait.

Same. I still think he's the best Progressive Conservative PM so far.

And there is no reason for a pipeline. No one wants more bitumen. All the refineries that can process it are at capacity. No one wants to build another bitumen to sweet synthetic crude refiner.

And forcing Carney to lift the tanker ban without consulting BC is just scummy. I don't think Carney has any intention of it. He's still talking Paris commitments. He can't do both.

I think he's just stringing Smith along to wait her out. Public opinion about her is shifting. He base is mad at her for not being bigoted enough, everyone else is mad at her for being a national embarrassment three times a week, every week.

Ottawa, Alberta agree to broad outlines of energy deal, including support for pipeline

What's the saying a pipeline in principal but not necessarily a pipeline? Saying this is possible should be a win for Alberta but will it be seen as such? Saying and doing are two different things.

It's an idea to have some meetings to develop a plan to get some company to buy in to the concept of a pipeline.

I think Carney may have realized Smith just needs a win for her base. Just shake hands, and out wait the next Alberta election. There doesn't actually need to be a pipeline, just an agreement.

Bingo. I think this is exactly the plan to placate Alberta and lull the separatists by seeming to take their side when all he is doing to just rearranging chairs. Smith still has to do the work and he knows that dog won't hunt so he can promise her the moon cuz he knows he never has to deliver. He also gets BC and Eby in line as well by showing he will not be an environmental pushover and he knows land rights are not above reproach either so they can't make it taboo for the feds to even broach the subject. The onus is now on the provence to sort out its laws and the supreme court not the feds.
